Project Ojective

     THE OVERALL OBJECTIVE

The overall objective of the project is to strengthen and develop education programmes in the areas of energy efficiency and renewable energy in buildings in order to graduate architects and engineers in the field, who can meet the market needs and energy efficiency codes of Egypt in order to establish sustainable energy development, cleaner energy production, and efficient energy practices. The programmes will be designed to foster truly multidisciplinary and innovative approaches to education and research in energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies in buildings that would build on the contributions provided by the practitioners in this field. The programmes should excite and motivate architects and engineers to specialise in the proposed focus areas of applied energy and promote scientific and technological co-operation to tackle global challenges in the area of efficient building and renewable energy systems technologies.

        SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES

• Develop a professional diploma programme energy efficiency and renewable energy in buildings with appropriate laboratory components aimed at a multidisciplinary student target group, based on interactive learning and teaching in collaboration with local partners.

• Develop a master of engineering programme in energy efficiency and renewable energy in buildings.

• Engage faculty in developing interactive instruction techniques for lectures and laboratory courses on sustainable energy and sharing experiences from EU consortium countries with local universities.

        THE PROJECT FOCUS

The project main focus is on developing a professional diploma in energy efficiency and renewable energy in buildings and a master of engineering in energy efficiency and renewable energy in buildings to be introduced at Cairo University in collaboration with Shorouk Academy. The programme will involve two universities in Egypt who will participate in the program and course development, in co-operation with graduate energy-related Diploma and Master Programmes that are offered at the consortium partner countries’ universities. The programme strength will emerge from the enhancement of experimental tools and development of testing laboratories and facilities that are needed to train students and lab personnel for testing of solar and building energy efficient products. The current proposal will complement and enhance that component when shared among the member universities in the consortium.

   ACADEMIC CONTENT

• High-level education and experimental research experiences in applied energy

• Human capacity building and training for common graduate programmes

• Knowledgeable, active, and skilled teachers in the area of applied energy that strives to inspire the students and apply effective educational techniques

• Students from the member universities who will have the possibility to take courses at the other universities and have them count toward their degree.

• Graduate professionals who can implement new technologies and provide various strategies for energy use, conversion, and conservation.

• PhD-students may elect to conduct their research, in part or in whole, at a partner university and benefit from their ties with the industry, which offers students access to valuable resources for applied research and allows industries to benefit from their work.
